Hello from windy Melbourne. As promised we have
available a brand new NITE JEWEL 12" (with a beautiful
full color cover) and some more Glass Candy tour leftovers.
These are from earlier in the year, specifically the Euro
tour they embarked upon. When i saw these designs i
knew they would be a hit. They went over so well we
made a few extras for the people who couldnt make it
to the gigs. Check the store for these awesome titles.

As usual we have a very small number of these shirts
and totes! In other news, the GETO BOYS t-shirts are
almost all gone. When last checked we were down to
4 of each size. As far as shirts are concerned, the "12"
shirts are some of my favorites.

A few have asked about the measurements of the size
YOUTH LARGE (aka: X SMALL) shirts. The youth large
shirts arent super small. American Apparel shirts run
a little big and many traditional SMALLS like the size
youth large for a better fit. We are sold out of most of our
shirts but we have some youth large left in a few designs.
That is the only way you will be able to get these shirts,
as we will not be making more of them. We also lowered
the price on the youth large shirts!

FInally, all orders received after August 18th will ship
on or about September 1st. The Italians interns are all
starting school then, and i'm in Australia, and Ian is on tour
with his band, and Andrew is listening to the new M.O.P.
(which apparently isnt too good according to him)- so
please be patient! Thanks, as always!

hello. here is a mix i did for Australian radio Triple J.
It aired a few weeks ago and i am curious how it went
over since it is not your typical techno/electro fare.
Plus it was done in one take due to time constraints...
This mix was made entirely of Disconet 12"s. Every
track was either an exclusive Disconet edit or previously
unreleased track altogether. there are a few tracks
that were only released as a Disconet 12". Most
of these are of the Italo/boogie variety since I didnt
do an Italo mix in a while and you know- boogie
is very cool at the moment. There is a totally awesome

Mike Australia tour 2k9 style

hello. i'll being heading back to Australia next week. I'm
very excited to be going back, since the last time was so
good. I have a few dates off in SYD so hit me up if you
want to go hit some record stores in the outskirts of SYD
on one of my days off.

also a few programming notes: during this time the IDIB
mailorder will be a little slower than normal. We will try
to get the interns in to send out some packages but this
is also when college starts so it may be tough. But keep

After months of mastering issues (the bass was so heavy
it was making the needle jump), legal issues, and remixing
issues. We are excited to say that the Glass Candy "Geto Boys"
12" is finally in stock. And even better...it's a double A side.
They've Been destroying this song on tour all year. Samples
the hip hop classic "Mind Playing Tricks On Me" from Houston
legends, GETO BOYS (who sampled Isaac Hayes). The flip side
of the record features the Deep Gems burner "Animal
Imagination". If that wasn't enough, the record contains 12"
instrumental versions and vocal edits of both songs. 3 tracks
per side. This is an extremely limited one time vinyl pressing
that you will never see on itunes. Packaging includes full color
jacket, insert, and lyric sheet. "For a good time...call Glass
Candy"...

also, we made a t-shirt with the Geto Boys cover specifically for
sale with this 12". We only made 60 shirts, so hurry up! Its

A New Bottin mix

here is a message from Bottin:

It's been a while since I posted a mixtape, so last sunday
after returning from Paris I immediately started selecting
tracks. I've been playing fast disco lately so I had to
compensate with this rather adventurous mid-tempo mix
of laid back songs from 100 to 110 bpm with basically no
genre rules: set your time machine to a random range
between 1978 and 1990 and you'll get stuff going from
disco-funk to proto-balearic, from italo-boogie to very
old school rap.

The track list has been made somewhat obscure: all that
is left of artist names and track titles are the initials and
whoever guesses the tracks will be awarded with a 12"
vynil or cd that I will gladly ship to any address on planet
earth at my expense. You don't even have to guess them
all: the 2 brave contestants that will get the most will win.
If you have your own blog and would like to post the mix
there you are very welcome to do so. Just make sure that
answers are posted as a comment to this blog or sent to
me in a private message.

10 DESIRE TRACKS ON MYSPACE / TOURS, ETC

hello. sorry for the lack of updates on here- been busy with
recording, preparing for tour, preparing for the Itlians UK
party (more on that soon), celebrating birthdays,
mowing the lawn, etc... but we're back with tours,
new records (more on that soon as well!) and news...

due to the overwhelming amount of people looking for a
nonexistent Desire myspace page...they finally made one
last night. just in time for them to catch their morning
flights out of montreal with glass candy. both bands are
in the air right now on their way for three weeks in europe.
i am meeting them in london & paris. it's going to be insane.
most of the official Desire lp is up on their myspace page now.
plus some unreleased 4 track cuts. the desire lp is done being
mastered, and on it's way to the pressing plant. we should
have these in the store in a little over a month. but in the

The Disco Files (sold out)

hello. thanks for your enthusiasm about the Disco
FIles book. We are sold out! Since its an expensive
import we are not sure if we should re-order more.
If the demand is there , of course we will get more,
as we want to support the people who released it...
(not to mention its a great book.) The question I
am asking is- should we re-order the book? Is there
any more interest? Please leave comments in the post

THE DISCO FILES 1973-78

hello. we are proud to announce that as of today we
have copies of THE DISCO FILES in our store. This is
by far the best book on the early days of disco i have
ever read. It was written by Vince Aletti, who was the
first person to cover the NYC disco scene. This is
his memoir, and it contains stories, charts & photos.
The charts are from clubs all over the world from
regional djs of the day. At 484 pages long, this is no
joke! Its a must for anyone who is a fan of Italians
or dance music in general. A great book to learn
from. Seriously, i've been waiting for this for years!

It is imported from the UK so it is slightly more
expensive but it is worth every penny. Plus you
are supporting a micro indie label with a huge
undertaking which is this book.

we just got turned on to two really crazy blogs this week. one has alot of the old glass candy demos, 7"s, tour cds, etc... from 1999-2006. and one has old chromatics cdrs 2003-2006. these lists aren't complete discographies. but they are some of the really hard to find recordings from two of our favorite bands. everyone has been asking us to reissue these for a while now, but we felt like giving them away instead. we just hadn't gotten around to posting them yet. so these guys beat us to it! they are 100% approved by us...so there's no need to feel like your killing the music industry by downloading these. feel free to spread the word. we have no control over these blogs and aren't sure how long the links will be good for. these tracks were only ever intended to be sold at shows on an extremely limited format. enjoy!

Ever since desire hit the west coast last week, people
have been going crazy leaking their demo cd left and
right... which we don't mind. but now there are four
different versions of this demo floating around on the
internet. the reason for this is that johnny was editing
and remixing the tracks on tour. and with the hectic
schedule of coachella, portland, san francisco,
vancouver etc... desire wanted to wait until they got
back to montreal to finish the lp. this version of the
demo has 7 tracks. this is the demo cd they were
selling at those shows. we made a few extras for
the IDIB blog die-hards at a special low price as a
special "thanks" for all the support and downloads.
so dont pay ebay prices!!! buy it here!

we only have 100 copies for the store, then they are
out of print until the album comes out in june.

Italians post-Coachella Spring party in San Fran...

Italians are heading to San Francisco this upcoming week for
a killer Post Coachella party. The party is on a Monday night
(you know, post Coachella).. There are no advance tickets
for sale, so get there early as it will probably sell out.

Also this is the San Francisco debut of Desire and Twisted
Wires.

Hello. This weekend in Portland was awesome.
Thanks for the support and sorry to all who
couldnt get in. If you were there hopefully
you saw Desire in their Portland debut. They
blew the doors off the place. It was definitely
something special. All you San Francisco people
hurry up and get your tickets now for this
weekend's Italians Do It Better post-Coachella
party where Desire will make their California
debut alongside Glass Candy and the California
debut of Twisted Wires. Its gonna be an
amazing night at the Mezzanine.

Here is the first of what we hope to be a long
line of leaks for Italians artists. We are going
to periodically leak a track or 2 for a limited time
then take the link down. The first leak is the
lead single from Desire (just in time for
the Mezzanine gig). i am going to take the
link down before i get on the plane this weekend

rushed to make a demo to sell at shows so

is the Spring Italians party at Rotture in Portland.
Last time we did this in Portland it sold out so be
sure to get there early. There is also an afterparty
at the same place as the last time in which i will
be playing all the music you know and love.

night. Mike is flying in a day early to play
a small club so if you want to hear deep

TWISTED WIRES & DESIRE JOINS THE IDIB ARSENAL

April 20th, 2009 /// Twisted Wires 12"
& Desire Cd Release Party! It's been a
while since we've thrown a party in
San Francisco. So we're hooking up
with Popscene to throw a big one at
the Mezzanine two days after Glass
Candy hits Coachella. We're flying out
Twisted Wires from Houston for the
release of their new 12" "One Night At
The Raw Deal". We can't get enough of
this song! They played their first show
a couple weeks ago with Nite Jewel &
Glass Candy at the NYC party, and they
completely slaughtered. This will be their
second show. The San Francisco show is
also the cd release party for Desire's
debut album. Desire is one of our new
bands from Montreal. The three piece
includes Johnny & Natty from a little
band we love called Chromatics with
Montreal singer Megan Louise. They
are touring with Glass Candy on the
way down to Coachella. And also doing
a month in Europe with Glass Candy in
May / June. We are so excited to see
them live! Their new cd is on constant
rotation. We'll have both of these two
releases in the store a couple days after
the party.

More info on the SF party in a week or so.
Also the last time we were SF Mike had to
leave the gig to witness the birth of his son,
so it is indeed a triumphant return. As
far as we know, there will be no baby born
that day...

Mike Simonetti : African Connection mix

Since I have some downtime this month and I
finally got the studio together (after a year)
i decided to do a mix. This one is called African
Connection and it is mostly African disco lps and
45's mixed with some Caribbean and Jamaican
tunes in there for good measure. no real mixing
here, just kicking back and fading in and out for
maximum early Spring vibes, so dont expect
a dj spectacular here- its all about the
selection. As a matter of fact, this mix was
done while playing with the big man on the
floor-- true multitasking. Anyone who can
guess these tracks will get any three Italians
releases of their choice. This one's gonna be
a little tougher than the Albuterol mix!

i will be djing this Tuesday in Brooklyn
for Andrew (literallyandrew.blogspot,com)
Porter's "I Hate Mondays" event. Since he
is at my house all the time he was sick of
all my disco records, so he requested i
play all post punk. i am pretty sure i
wont play any hits like Delta 5. So if you
want to see me play $300 DIY 7"s- now is
your chance. I am also playing with Matt
from Total Abuse who wont do a TMU
record because im the old guy at the club.
Not only is this the best name of a party ever,
it may be the best flyer ever.

SHIPPING (over)CHARGES

hello.. sorry we've been so distant from you
these days. been busy recording. living lives,
etc.. but we are doing a lot touring, djing
and record releasing next month onward.


if you are overseas you may notice your
shipping rates are very high. you may be over-
charged. the reason is because the IDIB store
Paypal account links to the USPS website and
it automatically calculates shipping, but
it tends to overcalculate when you order
more than two records. SO if you order
anything and the shipping is insanely high,
email us when you get the package and we
refund the difference. thanks for the
support!

IDIB weekend round up

Thanks to everyone who came out on Saturday to the
Italians End Of Winter Party. It sold out pretty fast,
and we are sorry to all who couldnt get inside. We
were told there was a line of a few hundred trying
to get in. We are already brainstorming for the next
party, and we promise it wont be 2 years from now,
and we will be able to fit more than 850 of you
maniacs next time. In the meantime, buy your
plane tickets for the Italians Spring Party in Portland
in April!

Hello. A little reminder that this weekend is the
Italians Do It Better winter 2k9 party in NYC
at Le Poison Rouge. Tickets are selling fast!
Also Mike will be djing at the Guggenheim
Museum in NYC this Friday as part of their
First Fridays series. check below for the flyer
for the party.. Also Glass Candy is playing
two warm up shows in Montreal this week.
Take a plane out there and check it out!

New record of note in the Italians store

Sorry i've been away, my other record label just
released 5 records. They are all cool, check them
out. Anyway, we usually dont get this excited over
a record because we are your typical jaded American,
but when I heard this was finally released I was
quite excited. Our friends at Academy Records in
Brooklyn started a new record label for reissues
and their first release is the only release by African
funk/soul/afrobeat/psych group Ofege. They were
all high school age at the time. This record has that
special something only a group of students can
bring to the table. We here at IDIB are insane record
nerds as you may have guessed, and i actually have
the original of the Oferge lp but it is trashed beyond
belief. If you know anything about African records,
you know it is impossible to find them clean. This
reissue is crystal clear. Looks and sounds amazing.
The music is fuzzed out psych-influenced Afrobeat.
If you are a dj, it is definitely good to play out. If
you are a record collector you will be stoked that
there is a clean pressing. If you like to listen to
good music and appreciate the music for what it
is- this is definitely a good one. Pretty limited
as well... Check out samples

Canada is like my second home... I'm going back
to Toronto and Montreal this weekend... Thursday
and Friday to be exact. To the Montreal people
who couldnt get in to the gig last time... This
one should be sorted out.
