Italians are heading to San Francisco this upcoming week for a killer Post Coachella party. The party is on a Monday night (you know, post Coachella).. There are no advance tickets for sale, so get there early as it will probably sell out.
Also this is the San Francisco debut of Desire and Twisted Wires.
Hello. This weekend in Portland was awesome. Thanks for the support and sorry to all who couldnt get in. If you were there hopefully you saw Desire in their Portland debut. They blew the doors off the place. It was definitely something special. All you San Francisco people hurry up and get your tickets now for this weekend's Italians Do It Better post-Coachella party where Desire will make their California debut alongside Glass Candy and the California debut of Twisted Wires. Its gonna be an amazing night at the Mezzanine.
Here is the first of what we hope to be a long line of leaks for Italians artists. We are going to periodically leak a track or 2 for a limited time then take the link down. The first leak is the lead single from Desire (just in time for the Mezzanine gig). i am going to take the link down before i get on the plane this weekend for San Francisco. I hope you love it as much as we do. Also if you got the Desire cd last weekend (or this upcoming weekend) you may notice is it missing a few tracks. We rushed to make a demo to sell at shows so we made a small amount with the original artwork, but with only 5 songs. So if you want a limited cd you better get it at the Sf show! We dont have many left!
check the IDIB store for the Twisted Wires 12" that is officially available for sale. In case you missed them in NYC they blew the doors off the place. They are a true force to be reckoned with. check out their myspace if you like:
If you like the Chromatics and Joy Division you will definitely like Twisted Wires. Some next level shit here! As with all Italians records, this one it limited. And you better hurry on the Botin and Nite Jewel, they are going fast!
i posted this on our brother blog (alainfinkel) but i think the world needs to hear this because it is so great. this remix is very low key and doesnt go with all the bells & whistles. plus its one of my favorite Bruce Springsteen songs. This always gets the old "what song is this?" treatment when i play it out. Enjoy the Spring.
Bruce Springsteen Tougher Than The Rest- Martin Vogel edit
Well It's Saturday night you're all dressed up in blue I been watching you awhile maybe you been watching me too So somebody ran out left somebody's heart in a mess Well if you're looking for love honey I'm tougher than the rest
Some girls they want a handsome Dan or some good-lookin' Joe on their arm Some girls like a sweet-talkin' Romeo Well 'round here baby I learned you get what you can get So if you're rough enough for love honey I'm tougher than the rest
The road is dark and it's a thin thin line But I want you to know I'll walk it for you any time Maybe your other boyfriends couldn't pass the test Well if you're rough and ready for love honey I'm tougher than the rest
Well it ain't no secret I've been around a time or two Well I don't know baby maybe you've been around too Well there's another dance all you gotta do is say yes And if you're rough and ready for love honey I'm tougher than the rest If you're rough enough for love baby I'm tougher than the rest
all caps mean super important post! this weekend is the Spring Italians party at Rotture in Portland. Last time we did this in Portland it sold out so be sure to get there early. There is also an afterparty at the same place as the last time in which i will be playing all the music you know and love.
This is a Jackson 5 edit done by Italians Do It Better's own Mike Simonetti... free for you all to do whatever you do with these things. Will post more soon, and will also post some of the edits from the Albuterol mix...
Italians Do It Better visits Istanbul. We are throwing our first ever party in Istanbul Turkey THIS WEEKEND! 4/4/09. We are adding our comrades from Horse Meat Disco as well. Please come one and all.
Glass Candy LIVE Mike Simonetti dj (Italians honcho) Filthy Luca dj (Horse Meat Disco)
at Otto Santral Istanbul. This goes all night. Mike is flying in a day early to play a small club so if you want to hear deep shit all night go there as well! Just ask around they will tell you.
April 20th, 2009 /// Twisted Wires 12" & Desire Cd Release Party! It's been a while since we've thrown a party in San Francisco. So we're hooking up with Popscene to throw a big one at the Mezzanine two days after Glass Candy hits Coachella. We're flying out Twisted Wires from Houston for the release of their new 12" "One Night At The Raw Deal". We can't get enough of this song! They played their first show a couple weeks ago with Nite Jewel & Glass Candy at the NYC party, and they completely slaughtered. This will be their second show. The San Francisco show is also the cd release party for Desire's debut album. Desire is one of our new bands from Montreal. The three piece includes Johnny & Natty from a little band we love called Chromatics with Montreal singer Megan Louise. They are touring with Glass Candy on the way down to Coachella. And also doing a month in Europe with Glass Candy in May / June. We are so excited to see them live! Their new cd is on constant rotation. We'll have both of these two releases in the store a couple days after the party.
More info on the SF party in a week or so. Also the last time we were SF Mike had to leave the gig to witness the birth of his son, so it is indeed a triumphant return. As far as we know, there will be no baby born that day...
Since I have some downtime this month and I finally got the studio together (after a year) i decided to do a mix. This one is called African Connection and it is mostly African disco lps and 45's mixed with some Caribbean and Jamaican tunes in there for good measure. no real mixing here, just kicking back and fading in and out for maximum early Spring vibes, so dont expect a dj spectacular here- its all about the selection. As a matter of fact, this mix was done while playing with the big man on the floor-- true multitasking. Anyone who can guess these tracks will get any three Italians releases of their choice. This one's gonna be a little tougher than the Albuterol mix!
i will be djing this Tuesday in Brooklyn for Andrew (literallyandrew.blogspot, com) Porter's "I Hate Mondays" event. Since he is at my house all the time he was sick of all my disco records, so he requested i play all post punk. i am pretty sure i wont play any hits like Delta 5. So if you want to see me play $300 DIY 7"s- now is your chance. I am also playing with Matt from Total Abuse who wont do a TMU record because im the old guy at the club. Not only is this the best name of a party ever, it may be the best flyer ever.
i was cleaning house and i found this record which i thought i lost when the airport lost my records... but alas, its still here and all is well. A true Qlint record if there ever was one!
hello.. sorry we've been so distant from you these days. been busy recording. living lives, etc.. but we are doing a lot touring, djing and record releasing next month onward.
if you are overseas you may notice your shipping rates are very high. you may be over- charged. the reason is because the IDIB store Paypal account links to the USPS website and it automatically calculates shipping, but it tends to overcalculate when you order more than two records. SO if you order anything and the shipping is insanely high, email us when you get the package and we refund the difference. thanks for the support!
Thanks to everyone who came out on Saturday to the Italians End Of Winter Party. It sold out pretty fast, and we are sorry to all who couldnt get inside. We were told there was a line of a few hundred trying to get in. We are already brainstorming for the next party, and we promise it wont be 2 years from now, and we will be able to fit more than 850 of you maniacs next time. In the meantime, buy your plane tickets for the Italians Spring Party in Portland in April!
Hello. A little reminder that this weekend is the Italians Do It Better winter 2k9 party in NYC at Le Poison Rouge. Tickets are selling fast! Also Mike will be djing at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC this Friday as part of their First Fridays series. check below for the flyer for the party.. Also Glass Candy is playing two warm up shows in Montreal this week. Take a plane out there and check it out!
Sorry i've been away, my other record label just released 5 records. They are all cool, check them out. Anyway, we usually dont get this excited over a record because we are your typical jaded American, but when I heard this was finally released I was quite excited. Our friends at Academy Records in Brooklyn started a new record label for reissues and their first release is the only release by African funk/soul/afrobeat/psych group Ofege. They were all high school age at the time. This record has that special something only a group of students can bring to the table. We here at IDIB are insane record nerds as you may have guessed, and i actually have the original of the Oferge lp but it is trashed beyond belief. If you know anything about African records, you know it is impossible to find them clean. This reissue is crystal clear. Looks and sounds amazing. The music is fuzzed out psych-influenced Afrobeat. If you are a dj, it is definitely good to play out. If you are a record collector you will be stoked that there is a clean pressing. If you like to listen to good music and appreciate the music for what it is- this is definitely a good one. Pretty limited as well... Check out samples
Also, we have 2 copies of the Try To Find Me 12" left in the store on Golf Channel. Hurry up because they are going fast!
And finally, the Italians Winter 2k9 party is right around the corner! all NYC people better come and represent! The party is almost sold out through pre-sales so hurry up and get your tickets!
Canada is like my second home... I'm going back to Toronto and Montreal this weekend... Thursday and Friday to be exact. To the Montreal people who couldnt get in to the gig last time... This one should be sorted out.
Wow has it been that long since we've thrown a party in NYC? Finally we are back for the first time since early 2006. We are throwing our seasonal IDIB party in NYC at Le Poisson Rouge. Expect an amazing night with amazing music and set design. It's the first Glass Candy show in NYC in over two years! And, Nite Jewel's first NYC show as a duo! This will also be the coming out party for our newest group: Twisted Wires from Texas! And Mike is going to drive 15 minutes to dj! Get your tickets early because it's going to sell out fast. We are also hoping to have a special giveaway cd ready for the gig as well. More info on that soon. Can't wait to see you all there...
Also, all you people in Montreal, we are having a few "warm-up" shows a few days before the NYC party with Nite Jewel and Glass Candy- as well as our favorite Montreal dj's- Loose Joints. They are at a tiny club so get there early!

We also restocked the Nite Jewel lp due to overwhelming demand.
hello again. this deserved a separate post. In a few days we will have the latest IDIB 12" in the form of Bottin "No Static". Bottin is from Venice Italy and has been flying under the radar for a while. Our aim is to bring him into the limelight where he belongs. He is not only a stellar producer, but an excellent dj with an even more excellent record collection. To prove this we offer you a mix by Bottin as well- that you can download below. People always say ITALO this and ITALO that. Well, here's some italo from you by a fellow Italian living in Italy. We will make an announcement when we have these in stock for mailorder. As always , strictly limited edition.
CONTEST ALERT! -we will give away an IDIB item of your choice PLUS a Bottin IDIB 12" to the first person to get the tracks on this mix. its a tough one! Also i cant stress enough how awesome Benguin's mix is. If you havent downloaded it , do it now!!! (its below us)
here are some hints proved by Mr Bottin. some of these tracks are edits so this may help...
01. LS – CMS 1979 (Bottin edit) 02. K - BD 1981 (Bottin edit) 03. DZ - IMAR 1980 04. MPI - Z 2007 (Bottin remix) 05. S - RAU 1984 06. G&MDA - ICDS 1979 (Bottin edit) 07. JR - FTLA 1981 (Bottin edit) 08. C - CE 1978 (Bottin edit) 09. HP - DB 1979 (Bottin edit) 10. BOTTIN - PIANETI 2008 (demo)
in other news, johnny has been sending me art samples and rough track sketches for some future releases. I will tell you now that 2009 is going to be our year. be prepared, this is just the beginning.
Come celebrate their exit from the womb and the arrival into your hearts. As is the tradition , Mike Simonetti and Michael T (you may know him from Motherfucker perhaps?) will be celebrating their birthdays together.
Saturday Jan 31, 2009 at Savalas in Williamsburg. free entry. the party starts when you get there. Mike will also be djing. Zeppole encouraged.
everyone wants to know what the little guy is jamming to in these cold winter days... he gets especially excited when you sing Paul McCartney to him... coming soon: Carole King "Little Guy edit" 12" ;)
Hope your 2009 is going smoothly as planned. here is a new mix from Ben Manzone- one of NYC's best kept secrets. In my opinion this mix is in contention for mix of the year already. Plus it has one of my all time favorite songs. Pay attention to the first track. Serious business and Sunday slow jams...
hello. i have a few coveted guest list spots for Santos New Years Eve party tomorrow. if you want to get in on the free admission action email me at: mike@troublemanunlimited.com otherwise its like $50 or something... hurry i only have a few spots.
i got a few complaints i am not posting any dance music. holy moly i didnt realize you people were so touchy about all this 'dance stuff'!! broaden your horizons! theres a whole world out there. ahhh fuck it- heres some killer old house for you!! happy new year! see you in the 2k9! (see below for some cool parties i am djing)
mike will be pulling double duty this new years eve, starting out djing at Rubulad as is the tradition every new years. He will then jump in a car and head over to Santos Party House for the Italians NYE party downstairs along with our own Invisible Conga People performing a live set, then mike will play a while as well as our pals Eamon and James. Very exciting! come on down! Santos open til the sun comes up!
in leu of some obscure lost baleric italo christmas heavy rock jam from scandanavia or something- we are going back to our roots. this one is for all the lovers with their loved ones on this lovely holiday season... happy holidays from your Italians family.
this record literally blew my head off. obviously i am not going to post a download for this out of respect to Arthur Russell and Audika, but i suggest you buy this album immediately.
this just arrived in my inbox via mysterious stranger who knows i love the Cure. These Peel Sessions are from 1978, 1980 and 1981 i believe... Some killer early stuff here that hasn't been leaked that much. You can hear some influence that leaked through to some Italians artists as well (hint hint)... But when i tell people i love the Cure, i really mean it. Maybe I'll post some Cure edits i did. I feel weird posting edits sometimes... but anyway, enjoy!
PS: the version of Seventeen Seconds SMOKES. so good!
hi check the italians store for the Nite Jewel lp on tiny label Gloriette. We have some for mailorder in case you want it. It seems impossible to find outside of LA...
hi. so im getting a lot of requests for track listings... c'mon guys, these arent THAT hard to figure it out! there are a few unknowns in here, but there are a lot of easy ones! any guesses? i'll start with track 1:
if you look to the right you will see a new link. this is for the new ITALIANS store. This is where you will be able to get all the newest IDIB stuff. Troubleman is no longer carrying these records. We thank them for their help through the years and wish them well, as they are my all time favorite label ;)
anyway, this is the only place you will be able to get direct mailorder for IDIB stuff...
The new releases will be ready Wednesday, and hopefully we will not be under a McCain/Palin regime by then...
Also, keep your eyes peeled for the new official IDIB website. we already secured the domain: vivaitalians.com - - - - - - for now it will direct you to this blog. Italiansdoitbetter.com was taken unfortunately...
- hello. Happy halloween/// new ITALIANS stuff will be for sale later this week. TONS of new stuff. Thanks to all who came out to the Italians party in Portland. It was awesome, even though i was there for under 12 hours!! See you in the spring!
OK, here's the backstory. early in 2008 mike and johnny went into the studio to work on stuff, fuck around a little with edits, music etc... Mike brought a box of records into the studio, and they picked out some songs. We came up with an idea to collaborate on a mix of edits. We did a bunch of edits on the fly (no computers, just a few cdjs) and did a mix. At the time, Mike was staying at Adam and Natties house and as we all know he's allergic to cats, and he was pretty fucked up the whole time he was there, in a constant state of "almost asthma attacks"... The typical Portland weather (DAMP RAIN) didnt help either. Plus we listened to chopped and screwed hip hop pretty much exclusively (as it is the shit Johnny listens to being from Houston and all). The mix you hear is the result of some of my time in Portland in early 2008... Pitched down tracks for your enjoyment... Done in a single take, Mike and Johnny knocked out some edits and tried to mix them. Some of these are proper "edits", others are simple extensions of the good parts for djing purposes, and a few tracks were perfect the way they were. Shit, some are even edits of other edits!!! The original tape was all but lost, but i found this on my ipod on the plane and dumped it to my computer. I totally forgot about it. you may have heard some of these versions in a live nightclub setting when i was djing. small world, right? I am going to post a few edits for you all to download later this week if you want (let us know) ... Can you guess which one of these songs on this mix is one of Mike's favorite disco trax of all time?
this weekend i will be in NYC at the WFMU record fair hopefully buying all the minimal synth and DIY 7"s before all the hawks come in (dealer badge means 7am entry!)..
on Friday after FMU i am djing in NYC at 12:30 am as part of CMJ, so come on down and chill out. its free... see flyer below.
i will then stay awake until 7am and go back to the record fair to grab more stuff before i jump on a plane in the afternoon to head over to Portland for the ITALIANS DO IT BETTER party. We try to throw parties all over the USA whenever we have a record to promote. This time we are promoting a few records: BEATBOX on vinyl (with bonus 7"!) and a new addition to the Italians family: Nite Jewel from Los Angeles, CA. Also playing is Farah (her first Portland gig ever!) When she is there she will hit the studio with Johnny to work on some new tracks. Very busy weekend for the Italians family. I'll be djing the gig and the afterparty as well. The afterparty will be at the "storefront". if you are from Portland you know this place. Last time i played there it was pretty insane. I love that place!
and FINALLY, regarding the ITALIANS gig. We will be selling a gig -only PINK VINYL version of BEATBOX. But have no fear, if there are any left i will lug them over to NJ for mailorder! Also at the party we will be giving away a new Glass Candy cd called DEEP GEMS, which is a collection of singles, b sides, and rarities. in between touring like crazy, glass candy has been in the studio every possible moment working on a new lp for 2009. in the meantime, "deep gems" is a collection of rare tracks recorded between march 2006 and october 2008. featuring 10 unreleased songs plus the remix of "miss broadway" they've been playing live, and the 12" version of "geto boys". here's the tracklisting of DEEP GEMS:
1 > INTRODUCTION 2 > FEELING WITHOUT TOUCHING 3 > ANIMAL IMAGINATION 4 > THE BEAT'S ALIVE 5 > SOMETHING STIRRING IN SPACE 6 > THEME FROM DEEP GEMS 7 > MORNING MIST 8 > GETO BOYS 9 > MS. BROADWAY REMIX 10 > SOFT BOUNDARIES 11 > STARS & HOUSES 12 > SILVER FOUNTAIN
Check the TMU store on Tuesday for the availibility of all the new releases.
ALSO AVAILABOE ON TUESDAY: nite jewel "what did he say" 12" b/w "let's go the two of us together" two new underground synth pop songs from los angeles' nite jewel. recorded on 8 track. ramona g's singing is contagious, and the music is out of this world. we love this girl!
my "Fall Relaxation Program" is coming to an end. I'm slowly getting back out on the road and playing other people's records... This weekend i am playing NYC, at an all night, after hours event. i am playing from 3:15- 4:30 am. before me is Large Professor, you know from Main Source... pretty nuts, right? it should be one of "those nights" as they say. Hope to see you there. These parties are notoriously asweome...
coming soon to Barcelona, Sweden, Mexico, Canada, DC, Chicago, LA, Istanbul, London, Canada again... AND OF COURSE, the Italians Do It Better seasonal Fall party in Portland next weekend! GONNA RULE! more info in a few days.
more importantly , there is going to be some news regarding many many new Italians releases and merchandise and new additions to the roster!
We are all coming out of our slumber. The sleeping giant has awoken.
hello, our very own Anton from Tiedye just did a mix for our good friends over in France. Qlint aloways blows me away with his insane selection of Swedish music. So many killer cuts. You may know this blog because the Dirty/Discodeine guys run it, and its one of our favorites! Mike also did a mix for that blog earlier this year. its called HAZY HOUSE , so check it out as well.
And check out the Dirty edits and Discodeine tracks if you can! These guys are great. The link below will take you to the blog.
hello there. sorry about the Love gig being so weird. Someone pulled the fire alarm early on and kicked everyone out at around 11pm, and we were forced to end early. maybe next time??? at least i didnt have to fly 16 hours, right???
So, the Glass Candy BEATBOX vinyl is almost ready for mailorder consumption. we will have it in a few days, and once it is here you will be able to order it. i havent even seen it yet. there will also be a few other surprises coming at the same time in the form of black plastic . yes, new 12"s! we are trying to see if we can manage to get them all out at once. What are the 12"s you ask? SHHHHHHHH cant tell you just yet. We like to wait until the last minute to tell you these things.
also if you are in the Portland area around the end of October, we are having a Fall party. You should all come out. Its going to be super fun. I will post more info in a few days. But for now, this will have to do.
Here are two of the little man's current favorite songs, in case you were wondering...
as you may have heard Norman Whitfield died yesterday. he wrote so many good songs its even hard to begin. he was one of my favorite songwriters of the Motown era.
hi. holy shit, theres nothing like waiting on line to take off at the runway for an hour and 10 minutes... and to top it off, the airport lost all of my luggage including my records. for that, i apologize Montreal, Toronto, and Chicago. But it wasnt my fault! They wouldnt let me carry on my records. They usually do. Because of this i was forced to play the cds i had with me. but have no fear, when i finally got the luggage back, the airport obliterated my record box thus rendering it useless. (they TAPED IT TOGETHER!) Thankfully the records are all Ok. SO i got a smaller carry on style dj bag so this never happens again. It worked well for Brazil. Im stoked.
Oh yea, next Thursday September 18th myself and 3 other guys i know are djing together to celebrate one of our own. Jacques just released an edit 12" on RVNG, and this is the record release party for it. you may know Jacques as we released what i think is his first mix like 6 years ago? also djing is Justin Miller, another guy who used to dj with Jacques at 205 before they shut down... Justin is also the guy who may or nay not send you those promo DFA 12"s..And some dude named Lovefingers. JUST KIDDING- we had him play the Italians Do It Better PS1 party last summer. Hes one of my favorite djs, and he is probably yours as well. SO its just 4 guys who know each other and always dj.... Together we have a really IQ.
I have a plane to catch the next morning so i am playing at 1am, but you should get there early as its a pretty solid lineup obviously. Im hardly the reason to go there. The sound system alone is worthy. Its at LOVE in NYC...
if anyone wants a guest list email me at: mike@troublemanunlimited.com

hello. so as you may or may not know, we moved from scenic jersey city to a much nicer area. when we moved we switched post offices (thank god). ever since we moved we have experienced something we havent experienced in a long time: efficiency. we feel this post office is a new beginning for us. some of you have emailed us surprised by the speed in which their mail arrived. we couldn't be happier. if there are any more issues with the mail email us. but i doubt there will be any more problems.
also we have been receiving some returned mail thanks to the jersey city post office. many of you have received emails from us and we are returning what we have been sent back. that would be a few of the fabled "spring bundles"... remember that fiasco?
anyway, we are running very low on tote bags and shirts, so if you want one i would order it soon. Those designs will not be made anymore after we run out of these. We are also down to the copies of the Farah 12" and IN THE CITY 12"... As you know we wont repress these, but they are available thru all of your favorite digital outposts if you so feel inclined.
freeway is one of the most underrated rappers in my opinion. this is an ultimate summer jam. i remember the summer it came out it was blasted from all the car stereos. from the golden age of pre-reggaeton.
the instrumental version is hypnotic. the vocal version is sick and has some of my favorite freeway lyrics. angry shit about doing what it takes to feed his kids. seems to be the theme of the song. even a pre- corny Jay-Z makes an appearance. more lazy summer posting! gigs coming soon.
vocal version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FLjP1ayqIU
Man if I get rocked, this shit for my kids nigga It's that real shit...
